The Push-To-Talk (PTT) adaptor is a chest mounted, user interface which toggles half-duplex (one-way) communications systems. This particular product also had to seamlessly switch between field and vehicle radio systems. Extensive sketching was used to determine how the buttons for the separate radio controls could be operated by tactile feel alone. This ergonomic consideration was important since the product was to be used in combat and visual button recognition may not be possible.
Sketching was also important in determining how to fit the five large bulkhead connectors in a small enclosure and ensuring the associated cables would exit the product in an organized and intuitive manner.
